Is there a way to lock scrolling?

Is there a way to lock the direction of scrolling?
ie, if I have a view that scrolls both horizontally and vertically, is it possible to make sure, once I have started scrolling on one axis, to prevent any scrolling on the other axis?

There isn’t currently a way to lock scrolling direction after scrolling begins. I think nested single-axis scroll views may make more sense for users in most cases.
